Tips for Buying the Right Tiles for Your Home

It is advisable to think carefully before making a decision to choose or buy the appropriate tiles for your home because it will reflect on the coming period in the home and so that it will not be a source of confusion in the future.

Some tips to help you make the right decision:

• Buy from reliable stores that import tiles (ceramic and porcelain) with high specifications.

• Take the advice of experienced people (engineers and supervisors) as they have a major role in knowing the sources of good goods in the market as they have sufficient experience and expertise to know that. We advise during the construction phase to appoint an engineer to supervise the implementation work.

• Matte ceramic tiles are water resistant, so it is best to use protective products to maintain the surface.

• You must know the types of tiles (ceramic or porcelain), as ceramic (red or white) is intended for walls, and porcelain is intended for interior and exterior floors and can be used for walls.

• Glossy tiles are not recommended for use in public and commercial areas where scratches can be easily seen due to the high reflection of light.

• There is no size better than the other, and this depends on the customer’s desire, noting that the larger the tile size, the more beauty and luxury it gives to the place. Also, large-sized tiles are easy to clean because there is a smaller percentage of joints.

• Floor tiles should be highly resistant and durable while wall tiles should be light and thin, it is always advisable to use porcelain tiles. However, ceramic tiles can be used for flooring if they are rated for that. The Porcelain Enamel Institute has assigned a classification for the use of tiles as follows (PEI Classification):

Class Zero: It cannot be used on floors and is only used on walls.

Class 1: For use on walls only in residential and commercial applications. This type should not be used on floors, shower surround is PEI-1 model tile.

Class 2: Light walls and floors are often used in residential bathrooms.

Class 3: Countertops, walls, and floors receiving normal tile traffic, good general purpose tile for all residential, not commercial, uses.

Category 4: All residential applications walls and floors, as well as medium and small commercial and institutional sites.

Class 5: All heavy commercial and institutional pedestrian traffic. Typically, this is only used for flooring and is rarely attractive enough for interior residential applications.
